Kristi Lee McVey, age 65, of Kearneysville, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 9, 1961, Kristi spent her life protecting, serving, and uplifting those around her.
For the last 29 years, Kristi (aka Tater for those who knew her well) shared a beautiful life and marriage with her devoted husband, Leonard McVey Jr. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and a shared passion for motorcycles, the outdoors, and community service. She was an avid archer and outdoorsman.
Kristi was a pillar within the West Virginia biker community, where she was widely known and deeply loved. She poured her heart into advocacy, leaving behind a profound legacy as a founding member of the very first Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) chapter in West Virginia. In addition, she was a founding member of the Stars & Bars organization, and she proudly served as a former officer of ABATE of West Virginia. If you don't know her from the biker community, you may have recognized her working as a waitress at the (former) Mountain View Diner where she retired from after about 20 years.
Kristi spent her entire adult life giving back to anyone in need. Whether she was championing women’s groups, fighting for the safety of children, or simply lending a hand to a stranger experiencing a hard time, Kristi’s generosity knew no bounds. She lived by the code of looking out for others, and her absence will be deeply felt by the countless lives she touched.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Leonard, her sons, Thomas Gray and Kris Gray, in addition to her tight group of friends, a list of names too long (you know who you are). Thank you for all that you have done in these hard times.
