Mary “Louise” McGowan, 85 of Martinsburg, walked up the stairway to Heaven on Saturday, September 7, 2019. Born July 27, 1934 in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Mary Ellen Butts, Sr. Louise was an independent woman who worked hard all of her life; a mouth that had no filter. She loved her flowers, fishing, reading, and puzzles. She was a George Strait and Elvis Presley fan. Louise was known for her cooking especially noodles and potato salad. Louise’s family meant everything to her and she was always willing to help anyone who was in need. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Amy Shifflett and her husband, Robert Jr.; grandchildren: Joshua, Michael, and Hannah Shifflett and Randi Kay and Samantha Zittle; great-granddaughters: Kaylyn Hubbard and Carlee Schader; brother, Freddie Butts and his wife, Sarah; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Garland McGowan; her son, Randall Keith Zittle; and her siblings: Cora, Pansy, Betty, Joyce, James, Lee, Russell, Curtis, Charles, and Wesley. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 11am at Rosedale Cemetery.

I remember you as always being there and doing the best you could. On my 13th birthday you wrote in a card that even though you couldn't give me everything, I had more love from you and dad. I knew I was always loved. You were there for everything for both my sons from pregnancy to them growing into men. For my oldest you beat to the hospital and waiting at the ER entrance. For my second you said I couldn't have anymore because you couldn't go through it again (meaning the birth part). For my daughter you told me I was just to old. I loved you then and I love you now. You will be missed so much.
