Mary L. Robinson

December 19, 1934July 17, 2019

Our dear mother, grandmother and friend left this world for her heavenly home on Wednesday , July 17, 2019 at Hospice of the Panhandle. Mary Lea Vanorsdale Robinson lived 84 years raising her family of 7, raising grandchildren, and working tirelessly to provide for each of them, and enjoying the little pleasures of life. A life of turmoil, sadness and tragedies was always brightened by the special moments spent with family. In November 2014, her husband of 63 years, Nelson (Pappy) Boyd Lee Robinson, and their sweet poodle, Snowball, were tragically taken from her and her family at the hands of a drunk driver. She has grieved for him ever since and they are now reunited. Mary was the daughter of the late Emma Shepherd and Harry Vanorsdale born on December 19, 1934. She was preceded in death by siblings Rosalea, Margaret, Janet, Nina, Wanda (Lulu), Jeannie, and Melvin (Jiggs). During her lifetime, she worked a variety of jobs, including laboring in the orchards, Perfection Garment, Royce Hosiery. She can be remembered most recently being the Walmart greeter at the Martinsburg Walmart. She retired from Walmart in 2015 after 20 years of service. Mary loved to travel and would pick up and go in a heartbeat! Even during her illness she continued to want to go. Her only daughter, Connie Dehaven, was her loving caretaker, traveling companion, and her friend. She would always be by her side in good times and hard times, she was her comfort. Mary and Nelson raised 6 sons and 1 daughter. Their surviving children include Nelson (Joyce), Connie (Dane), Ronald, Michael, Eugene (Karen) and Randy (Angie), and adopted grandson, Dusty. In addition she was predeceased by her son Dale, his wife Michelle and her grandson Denver Dehaven as a result of tragic events. Mary’s brother, Donald (Pete) Vanorsdale survives Mary, as well as her sister-in-law, Bertie Mae Stilwell. Mary and Nelson loved their grandchildren and cared for many of them during their lifetime. Over 50+ grandchildren, great/grandchildren and great-great grandchildren survive Mary. Mary leaves us memories of a strong woman who never minced words! She always told you what she thought and you always knew where she stood. She worked hard her entire life and gave every dime she earned to her family. She will be missed by many, but she will always be remembered with love and respect for her strength and her love of her family. A special thank you to all those who helped the family care for her during her illness. The assistance to the family from Crystal, Linda, and especially to the nurses, aides, social workers, etc. of Hospice of the Panhandle. In Mary’s memory so as to continue this valuable service to other families, Mary’s family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430. A service to honor Mary’s memory will be held Monday, July 22, 2019 at 12:00 at Rosedale Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.

I didn’t know Mary prior to working at Walmart. There were many times we would have a conversation and Mary would always ask me about my family and how they were doing .
Russell my husband evidently grew up with Nelson and has shared many memories he had of them and their friends as youngsters . Sending prayer out for comfort , strength and healing . May God’s words comfort her family during this time .
