Mya had completed her 9th-grade year at Martinsburg High School.
Born in Winchester, Virginia, Mya is survived by her mother, Sylvia Brice, and step-father James Etheridge IV. Also, her grandmothers, Norma (Nana) Minters, Betty (Mawmaw) Wilson, Grandfather, Royce (Pap) Wilson, her sisters Destiny Walker (Ras Harrison), whom she called Sissy, Totianna “Tt” Etheridge (James Guthrie), Talea (Tibby) Brice, and her brother James Etheridge V (Kris Broche) whom she called bubby, her aunts, Lynn, Michelle, and Jackie, uncles, John and Michael and slew of many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her father, David Daniel Brice, and grandfathers, Charles (Pop-pop) Minters and John (Granddad) Mahoney.
Mya was a free-spirited, selfless, strong-willed young woman with a passion for drawing and the arts. Mya was once a very dedicated cheerleader who marched to the beat of her drum, even if she tripped over that drum from time to time. She had a style all of her own, from bleach-blonde hair to hot pink hair. You never knew what the week would bring and how she would look when she decided to emerge from her bedroom.
Mya had a heart as big as her smile. She valued relationships in all forms of connection. She was a light that drew anyone to her. To be in the presence of Mya, you were going to get laughter, stories that never ended, and her opinion, which she stood proudly on, whether you agreed with her or not. If it was not, she would surely state her case, and you would never hear the end of it.
She was only here on this earth for 16 years, and her impact on so many people will be forever lasting.
She was loved dearly by her friends and her boyfriend, Tristen, showing the amount of love and support she received in these trying times.
Our mother insisted that her dear cat Nova be mentioned in this beautiful tribute to our beloved Mya. Mya was a forever cat lover who recently mentioned her need to have her first tattoo of the cat Nova.
A few things about Mya: She loved McChicken sandwiches, she was a slight hypochondriac, hated seafood, she loved movies, she loved to read, she loved her Nintendo Switch, she was a detective and could find anything out about anyone, her favorite singer was HER, her favorite country singer was Morgan Wallen, she couldn’t stand a dirty bathroom and always had to have her eyebrows perfect.
Like her favorite novel’ The Fault in Our Star, even with such a sad ending, Mya's story will live on in our memories and become a beautiful masterpiece, one that we will want to replay, over and over and over…
