Patricia Ann Miles (Taylor), 74, of St. Albans, WV passed away peacefully, with her daughter by her side, on Monday, February 7th, 2022. She was lovingly known to many as “Patty”, “Pat”, and “Mrs. Miles”. Pat was born in Charleston, WV on December 31st, 1947, the daughter of the late Ralph and Kathleen Taylor (Lutz). She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Andrew “Frank” Miles. She is survived by her only daughter, Dr. Jennifer Ann Miles (husband, Dr. Levi Stevens), her brother, Robert Taylor, her sister-in-law, Candy Taylor, and her nephew, Justin Taylor (wife, Lauren Brookmeyer-Taylor).
Pat was raised in the West side of Charleston, WV. She had so many wonderful memories of her childhood. She felt lucky to grow up in such a close-knit family with so many cousins who felt more like her brothers and sisters. She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV. She was a dean’s list student who went on to earn her degree in elementary education at West Virginia State College. She met her husband Frank while attending college and they got married in 1971. Pat was a devoted wife and spent forty-nine years loving her husband unconditionally.
Pat, or “Mrs. Miles”, was a beloved 2nd grade teacher who spent most of her 35+ year career at Fairview Elementary in St. Albans, WV and then on to Andrews Heights Elementary in Tornado, WV. Mrs. Miles was one of the most kind and thoughtful teachers who left a lasting impression on her students. She positively impacted the lives of so many of her students who were forever grateful for her compassion and caring soul. Pat could run into one of her students she’d taught decades ago and they would instantly remember her and hug her dearly. She would not only remember her student’s names but also their family. Pat had a way of making everyone feel so special and so loved.
Pat excelled at teaching but the title she was most proud of was to be called mom. Pat and Frank had their only daughter, Jennifer, in 1988. Pat dedicated her life to Jennifer and they were bonded at the hip. Being a teacher, Pat was fortunate to have her summers off, which meant spending cherished quality time with her daughter. Jennifer and Pat had so many wonderful memories together, including their countless trips to the St. Albans Public library where Pat shared her passion for reading with her daughter. They had so much fun going to the pool together, taking walks, going to get ice cream and riding their bikes. As Jennifer got older, they spent a lot of time together traveling to Jennifer’s sporting events all over the state. Pat was adored by all of Jennifer’s friends and made them feel like they had a second mom.
Pat will forever cherish her best friend Debby Bain, who managed to brighten her life every single day. Debby and Pat weren’t sisters by blood but were sisters of the heart.
Not a day will go by that Jennifer won’t think of her and feel incredibly lucky to have had her as a mother and as her best friend. Pat will be tremendously missed by her family, friends and former students. Honoring Pat’s wishes she will be cremated and no services have been scheduled at this time.
