Peggy Ann Walker 87 of Martinsburg, WV passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday April 25, 2026 after fighting years with dementia. Born August 21,1938 of Gerrardstown, WV to Charles and Anna (Hutzler) Triggs.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Rice; four sons: Roger, John, Douglas & Donald L Walker Jr; two daughters: Tina Walker and Judy Shawyer; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Anna; two brothers Charles Sherman Triggs and Howard David Triggs; two sisters Frances Irene Smith and Phyllis L Stanley; her husband Donald L Walker and two daughters Donna Marie and Peggy Diane Walker.
She worked every day of her life as a true homemaker that just didn’t cook or do laundry, she stood in freezing winter on the back porch with an old ringer washer to make sure we had clean clothes. She canned vegetables, changed cloth diapers not for one or two kids but eight and taught us the meaning of working hard. Her passion was writing stories, poems and drawing on anything and everything including the living room lamp. She made sure we went to church every Sunday growing up and taught us to love and respect others. She could make you laugh and feel blessed unless you were bad and then you got the switch. We didn’t have brand name clothes, delivery drivers, cell phones or the internet. We had real friends and neighbors like Chris Cook and Clara Hess; hand stitched quilts or patched jeans; home grown food and the imagination to create our own fun and adventures in the world that God created for us to explore.
She was a God-fearing Baptist loving woman whose faith guided her every step. Her kindness, wisdom and strength touched everyone who knew her. She was truly the heart of our family, always offering comfort and love. She brought us up with the belief that God is strong, loving and forgiving. She read and studied the bible every day of her life until she was no longer able to read or write.
Mom often found joy in what many perceive as simplest things in life, and what many tend to overlook. She loved nature in all aspects, frequently whistling along to the birds chirping. Her favorite spot was sitting on porch swing simply taking in all of Gods artwork. Aside from the love and relationship with God, family meant absolutely everything to her. She took great pride in being present for everyone despite having such large family. She was the matriarch and the reason so many gathered under one roof and she is what held us all together. She was the epitome of her favorite color, yellow. She was vibrant, bold, and full of warmth. Her larger-than-life personality reminded you of sunshine of a clear summer’s day. To be in her presence was an absolute treasure like finding gold at the end of a rainbow.
Her spirit, her wisdom and laughter will be tremendously missed. Rooms that she often sat in will be much quieter and dimmer. Her absence will be felt amongst all who knew her. Though this is a significant loss, we are blessed beyond words to have shared so many wonderful memories with her and find peace in knowing she lived this life full of happiness, and with a sense of completion.
We came from such a large loving family not just blood, but the bond of family and friends that brought strength to our lives. There are just of few of us now and life on earth is fleeting, but Heaven is eternal and so is our love for you.
Her legacy will live on through generations she nurtured and the countless lives she has inspired. She was literally the lifeblood of our family. Though she will be deeply missed, we find peace knowing she is resting in the arms of the Lord and is reunited with those in heaven. Her love will remain in all our hearts forever.
A Funeral Service will be held at Rosedale Funeral Home, at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Rosedale Cemetery.
