
Born June 13, 1947 in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Douglas R. and Margret E. VanMetre.
He was a longtime member of Rest United Methodist Church in Clear Brook, Virginia and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bluegrass music.
Bob graduated from Musselman High School in 1965. He earned an Associate Degree in Industrial Safety from the Community College of the Air Force in 1986 and a Regents Bachelor Arts Degree in General Studies from Shepherd College in 1994.
He served in the 351 Army Reserve in Martinsburg as Sargent First Class (SFC) from 1966-1979 before transferring to the 167 TAG WVANG, where he retired in 1992 as a Senior Master Sargent.
Bob worked in the local aircraft manufacturing industry for many years, including The Lockheed-Georgia Co., The Tiger Aircraft Co., and the Sino-Swearingen/Emivest Aircraft Co. in Martinsburg. He also worked for the Fairchild Republic Aircraft Co. and Rohr Industries in Hagerstown, Maryland.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara Fowler VanMetre; one daughter, Karen VanMetre Beasley and husband, Dart; and one granddaughter, Delayna Beasley.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 4-6pm at Rosedale Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Reynolds of Rest UMC officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle.
