Russel Lee Barron, 85 of Martinsburg, passed away at Heartland Nursing Home, under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
Born September 15, 1925 in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Lloyd E. Barron and Elsie Creamer Barron.
Russel is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mildred L. Barron. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Russel served 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1965. He served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Russel worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Martinsburg, retired in 1990, after 23 years of service. He was a Life Member of the V.F. W., Post #896, A Life Member of D.A.V. chapter #8, American Legion Post #14, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #120, A.M.V.E.T.S. Post #38, Elks Lodge #778, all of Martinsburg. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #202 and the Red Men’s Tribe #84 both of Williamsport, MD.
Russel is survived by two step sons; Richard L. Gosnell of Martinsburg, and Larry R. Gosnell of Centreville, VA; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The last of his immediate family, he leaves behind four nephews: Dennis and Lloyd Barron, Steve and Ben Hutzler, also two nieces: Marva Barron and Diane Fulk.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers: Lyle (Buddy) Barron, Lloyd (Brother) Barron, Marvin Barron, and one sister Katherine (Sis) Hutzler.
Friends may call from 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Rosedale Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at Rosedale Funeral Home on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 2:00p.m. with Rev. Albert Clipp officiating.
Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
