Sam you was a sweet man. That didn't say a bad word about no one
And for you not to be where you wanted to be your last resting place in Flint Hill. With the family that loves you and has always been with you for the last 16 years. But we know that you looking down on us and knowing that this was not our decision. Makes it better that we know this..You will be missed And for me just bring you subway and have lunch with you when you was in the hospital and just talking I will cherish that..We will be putting flowers on your grave in Flint Hill when we visit other members they because to us that where you will..
Fly high my friend Fly high.

Sam - so sorry to see your wishes not be granted and your burial place back in West Virginia from the decision of your “biological” family, not the real family that’s been by your side for the past 16 years. You may be buried where you are alone given the abandonment of your wishes, but your real family knows where your spirit is.

I am appalled that this family would make those decisions not in your best interest, but you are closer to God than those and they should seek the Lord. Rest easy with your bud ice. Mom will be taken care of in the days and weeks ahead.

Those also left to cherish his memory is the family he spent his last 16 years with. His significant other, Mae V. Jenkins, of Front Royal VA. Two step-daughters, Crystal Jenkins-Phillips of Front Royal VA and Mertie M. Honaker of Front Royal, VA. One step-son, Ronald Feathers of Front Royal, VA. Grandchildren, Mikalah F. Phillips, Jaeden J Shifflett, Christopher Ramey and fiancé Anna Maskell, Brittany Ramey Haslacker and husband Robert, Amber Feathers, and Bryce Feathers, all of Front Royal VA. Sam was also loved and cherished by many adopted extended family members, Mary Taylor, sister of Mae Jenkins, John Shifflett and fiancé Amanda Whittaker, Christopher Pangle, and Helen Rutherford. We are deeply saddened to be excluded from this important grieving process but will always enjoy the memories we have with Sam over these last 16 years. He was a wonderful companion, step-dad and PapPaw and a wonderful man. His dust may be buried at the legal family's choosing but his soul will remain in Flint Hill, VA where he had chosen his burial location and has had his headstone for the last 8 years. Fly High Old Man.... We will always love you. We'll take care of mom from here.
