

Born on April 17, 1949, in Moorefield, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Samuel Elwood and Leoda Violet (Smith) Combs
Tommy served as a Specialist-4 in the United States Army, where he worked as a Combat Engineer. His military service included a tour in Vietnam from July 1969 to July 1970, and he was honorably discharged on March 1, 1975. Following his military career, Tommy applied his skills as a carpenter for nearly 40 years, building houses, decks, and anything that required the craftsmanship of wood.
On April 11, 1981, Tommy married his beloved wife, Helen DeHart, in Point of Rocks, Maryland. The couple spent the majority of their marriage in Kearneysville, West Virginia, before relocating to Lake City, Florida, in 2015.
Tommy will be remembered for his dedication to his craft, his family, and his country, and his legacy will continue to be cherished by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Helen I. Combs of Lake City, Florida; children: Shelly Davis of Kearneysville, WV, Robbie Combs and wife, Tawnya of Ranson, WV, Ray Combs and wife, Angie of Lovettsville, VA, and Walter Combs, Jr. of Stokesdale, NC; grandchildren: TJ Mobley, Travis Mobley (Isabel B.) Tyler Mobley (Nay), Taylor Mobley ( Cady H.) Amber Wells (Dylan), Aryona Richards (Josh G.), Justin Richards (Dakota) Regina Gray (Glen), Garrett Combs (Kendra), Wyatt Combs, Madison Combs, Dylan Combs (Alena D.) Devon Combs (Emma I.) and Emily Combs; great-grandchildren: CJ, Connor, Kharma, Zane, Remi, Haley, Hunter, Hayden, Naeomi, Kayden, Waylon V., Elias, Charlotte, Waylon A., Grayden and Jay; brother, David E. Combs of Berryville, VA; and sisters: Betty J. Sexton of Warrenton, VA, Barbara A. Lang of Charles Town, WV, and Violet M. Smith of Kearneysville, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Alice M. Oliver, Shirley E. Kurtenbach, and Connie L. Sexton.
Family and friends will be received at Rosedale Funeral Home on Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
