In the early morning of February 27, 2024, Cynthia Isobel Noriega of Marysville, Washington, passed away suddenly and peacefully at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, surrounded by her family. She was 67 years old.
Cynthia was born to Edward and Elizabeth Prasad on January 9, 1957, in Suva, Fiji. Together with her family, she immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on May 8, 1967. She was a student of Sir Charles Tupper Secondary School in Vancouver. Following her graduation, she worked at The Bank of Montreal in downtown Vancouver.
Cynthia moved to the United States with her sisters, Catherine and Nadeen in 1976, first to Seattle then to Las Vegas, where she married Robert Noriega on February 23, 1980. All of their children were born in Las Vegas. The Noriega family also lived in Lynwood and Mukilteo, WA. Cynthia and Robert made a huge impact on the casino industry when gaming was legalized in Washington State. She trained the first group of Washington State Gaming agents in gaming theft prevention. Most recently, Marysville was home to Cynthia. She worked at Quil Ceda Creek Casino until her passing.
Cynthia was an exceptional cook, and loved to share her favorite dishes, recipes and cooking tips, especially spicy curries, with everyone that she loved. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. Nothing made Cynthia happier than seeing everyone around her having a good time, especially her family. She was funny and witty, and would share random facts and information in conversations.
Aside from her love for cooking, Cynthia liked to shop, often for gifts for loved ones, as she kept track of what she knew people liked. She kept in touch with family and friends; there was always a phone call, a text message or flowers from her on birthdays.
Cynthia adored her children and grandchildren. She recently texted “my family is everything to me”. She often spoke fondly of her grandchildren and spoiled them with gifts and cash.
Cynthia is preceded in death by her parents, Edward (1973) and Elizabeth (1975) Prasad, and brothers Benedict (1953) and Benjamin (2013). She leaves to mourn, her sons, Sanjey (Joliene), Rishi (Anya), Shayne (Chante), and daughter, Rani (Dylan) Evans, grandchildren, Jadyn (Rage) Quick; Gisella, Ramses, Tamryn and Kyrie Noriega; Sage and Soren Evans and Hendrix Noriega. Cynthia is survived by her siblings: Catherine Green, Ben (Trish) Prasad, Nadeen Hughes, husband Robert Noriega; nieces and nephews, her aunt (Patricia Rehman), and numerous cousins.
A memorial service and reception will be held on March 15, 2024, 1:00 pm-4 pm, at Schaefer Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Avenue, Marysville, WA.
There will be a Mass on April 5, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 330 Royal Ave, New Westminster, BC, Canada. Following the Mass, at 12:00 pm, Cynthia’s cremains will be interred at Ocean View Cemetery, 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby, BC, Canada.
The Noriega family would like to express their appreciation to friends and family for their compassion and support in their time of grief.
