Darlene spent her childhood in the Skagit County/Anacortes area, graduating from Anacortes High School in June 1953. She married her sweetheart, Bill Symonds, on June 14, 1953. She worked on and off in local stores and enjoyed helping her customers.
When Bill decided to go back to college to get a teaching degree, Darlene worked as a key-punch operator at the Shell refinery in Anacortes. In 1966 the family moved to Centralia, WA, for Bill’s teaching job at the Centralia School District.
God was and is the head of the Symonds family. His faithfulness and provision through the years have been remarkable. We never lacked for anything, as God took care of it all. Mom’s example of Christ-like love was apparent to all who came in contact with her.
Mom led a Good News Club in her home weekly for elementary-aged school kids. She worked as a church secretary for many years, followed by a career as a para-educator for the Centralia School District.
She was famous for her rolls, clam chowder, potato salad, and her chocolate chip and snickerdoodles, which she made on a regular basis. People looked forward to the many potlucks where she would bring these mouthwatering treats.
Bill and Darlene moved to Lake Stevens in 2007 to be close to family. They eventually moved to an adult family home, where Bintou Sanneh and her fabulous team took wonderful care of them both.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Dorsey and Marguerite Marchant; her sister, Jeanne Walch; grandchildren, Sarah and Benjamin; her son, David, and most recently, her beloved husband, Bill. She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Bruce); son, Paul (Shelly); granddaughter, Courtney; grandson, Kyle; grandson, Billy; grandson, Corey (Valerie); and grandson, Brayden. She also leaves great grandchildren Alex, Callie (Lauren), Kennedy, Simone, Noah, Kai, and great-great grands Milli and Beau, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Can’t wait to see you again Mom, and be reunited with Jesus in Heaven for all eternity. We love you.
