

Donald Ball of Marysville, WA passed away 9/11/2010. Don was born in Arlington, WA on August 31, 1919. His parents Mayo and Mary raised their family on a farm in Bryant. After graduating from Arlington High School, Don joined the Army and proudly served his country for 5 years during WWII. He married his sweetheart Myrtle during the war and they had their first child Darlene. After his return they had a son Ron and moved to Marysville and joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They bought 20 acres at Sunnyside and had a small gentlemens farm. In 1980 he built his dream home with a beautiful view of the sound.
While in the Army Don got training as a mechanic and he also worked for Chrysler for several years. He then went to work for Scott Paper where he retired in 1981. Not one to sit still, he started his own trucking company, hauling sand, gravel and black top. His son joined him in the business. After Myrtle passed away in 1986 he slowed down and let Ron take over in 1988. About the same time Don met a sweet lady: Mickie. They married in 1991 at Bethlehem Lutheran church. Besides his children Don has 5 grand children, 8 great-grand children, and 1 great-great-grand child!
The other love of Don's life is Hat Island, where he owned property and a house. He was willing to help anyone who needed an extra hand. Don was instrumental in starting the Hat Island fire department, and served as the first fire chief from 1978-1996.
Don is survived by his wife Lucy "Mickie" Ball, his son Ronald Ball, Daughter Darleen Jones, and his many grand children.
Services dates and times will be announced at a later date .In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, or the Hat Island fire department.
