Dorothea was a tiny 2-pound baby born on March 21, 1923 to George and Susie Feller of Salem, Oregon. As a child she enjoyed spending time with all her grandparents and many uncles, aunts and cousins. She learned to drive a truck in the family prune orchard at age 9. Dorothea and her father liked baseball and she became the pitcher for a girls’ softball team where she was nicknamed “Bobby Feller” after the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame pitcher. She graduated from Salem Highschool and Cascade Bible College in Portland, Oregon and then moved to Washington to attend Seattle Pacific College and the University of Washington where she earned her nursing degree. Dorothea’s career was spent at Firland Tuberculosis Sanatorium and at the Fircrest School Infirmary caring for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Dorothea married Eugene V. Pearson in 1953 and they made their home in Mountlake Terrace, WA where she enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, reading, listening to music and preparing meals for her family. Favorite vacations were spent visiting relatives in Salem and camping at Cape Lookout State Park on the Oregon Coast. In her retirement years Dorothea attended a daily water aerobics class and volunteered at Warm Beach Senior Community in Stanwood, WA.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband Eugene and grandson David Herold. She is survived by her three daughters, Susan Staple (married to Dan), Linda Herold (married to Bob) and Janel Wolf (married to Barry), as well as her brother, Ron Feller (married to Marsha) and granddaughters Kelsey Herold and Tracy Sundby (married to Mykel) and great grandsons Cameron Herold and Gage Sweeny.
Dorothea had a warm, cheerful, thankful heart. To God be the glory for all His provisions and His tender faithful care of Dorothea throughout her life. Our blessed Christian hope is to see her again one glad day. “...surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6
