Dorothy Julia Findley

She is survived by her daughters, Julia Findley, Susan Stevenson and Linda Hillman. Grandchildren: Patrick Acheson, Shelley Fogg, Jennifer Mills, Christy Martin, Amber Forrest, Marnie DeWees, Ken Hillman, Brandon Stevenson, Cory Stevenson and Tyler Findley. And numerous great and great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Findley, her parents, Frederick and Julia Schmiege, her siblings, Nye Barwise and Fred Schmiege Jr. and likely her son, Robert Michael “Mick” Findley.

Dorothy grew up in Bovey, Minnesota. She trapped furs to pay for her school supplies as a youngster. In order to gain an education, she boarded with a family in town during the school year.

She was an avid gardener and instilled that love in many who knew her.

Dorothy worked at Boeing as a Bucker during the early 40’s. Later in life, she worked for many years at Del’s Nursery on Old 99 in Marysville growing plants and advising others on what beautiful plants and flowers to buy.

She loved her family with all of her heart and they loved her dearly in return.

A visit to her home often included a listening ear, homemade cookies, fudge, pancakes, root beer floats, a walk in or near Quilceda Creek, stories about her past, enjoying many meals together. Her wild rice recipe remains a family favorite.

If one of her loved ones was sick, she took care of them.

If it was time for a grandchild to buy their first car, she loaned a few of them the money. She carefully recorded every payment too! She gently taught us the importance of paying what we owed.

Her tender, sweet nurturing spirit will never be forgotten. It lives on in each of us who had the privilege to know her. Thank you Grandma Dot for a lifetime of love.
