James was born on December 22, 1947, to Forrest and Lorraine Herr. The Herr family soon moved to the Snohomish area where he attended Cathcart Elementary and graduated from Snohomish High School in 1966. He attended Everett Junior College and Western Washington State College.
He entered the Army in May 1970 and bravely served our country in Vietnam from September 1970 - November 1971.
Jamie married Sherry (Cundiff) on August 25, 1972. Together they raised two children.
He worked as a logger in the early years and then found his calling as a skilled machinist. His career began at Triway and moved on to AllFab and several years at AMT, retiring in 2012.
His many hobbies included writing poetry, woodworking, making birdhouses, building go-karts, watching car races, collecting fast-food toys, and crafting extraordinary ships-in-bottles. He spent years participating in Maryfest activities, particularly the annual tricycle races. He attended First Baptist Church and most recently Berean Baptist Church.
He was a loving and loyal family man and never met a stranger. He was a hero to all who loved him.
Jamie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sherry; son, Terry (Ginger) Herr; daughter, Jessica (Mike) Sweet; mother, Lorraine Herr; grandchildren: Forrest G. Herr, Sage Herr, Julia Sweet; brother Ron (Cherry) Herr; sister Dianna (Herr) Engeseth.
He was preceded in death by his father, Forrest A. Herr, and sister, Susan (Herr) Chase.
The memorial service will be on Friday, October 19, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home followed by reception and then graveside service with military honors at Marysville Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
The family would like to thank the loving staff of the Cottages at Marysville, the outstanding Personalized Care Team from the Everett Clinic, and the compassionate staff of Providence Hospice for the excellent care of Jamie over the past year.
