Born in Seattle November 30th, 1946 Janene lived her life never far from the childhood home her Dad built in Shoreline. She attended school at Ridgecrest Elementary, Morgan Middle School and graduated from Shorecrest High School in 1965 where her two oldest children would also graduate from in 1988 and 1989.
Being Baptized Catholic she embraced her religion and love for our Lord. She attended St. Marks in Shoreline for the first portion of her life, St. Mary Magdalen’s in Everett and finally St. Mary’s in Marysville. From my earliest memories Mom could be found sitting at the breakfast table with a cup of coffee and the bible open. She would read scripture to get focus, direction, and inspiration for her day. She worried about her children’s salvation as much as her own. We were all baptized, started on our life’s path in the church and attended Catholic school for some portion of our education. She expressed many times how she was never happier than when she was in church with her family. Her devotion to her faith was undeniable and unwavering, an inspiration to us all.
Mom was very much an artist. She could sketch, paint, design and decorate at a professional level. Her paintings were museum quality and gave a glimpse into the wonder and beauty she saw in the world. Her sketches were just as detailed and wonderful. We often wondered what made her stop at a sketch and not turn it into a painting. Was all she wanted to do? Was that all that piece of art was meant to be? Either way they were creative, detailed, and beautiful. She decorated her homes as if they were going to be featured in an article of Better Homes and Gardens. She was thorough in her cleaning, meticulous in her attention to details, and was ready for a photoshoot at any time. She got herself ready every morning without exception. Makeup and hair was part of her morning ritual and she was ready to attack each and every day with style and class. Her beauty even landed her in the Seattle Times as a model for Fredrick & Nelson department stores.
She showed her beauty through her love for family. 5 children and 12 grandchildren. You couldn’t walk into her home without being surrounded by pictures of those she loved. Tables, cabinets and walls, no square inch of space was safe from a pictures of a loved one. When we evaluate our legacy or the mark we made on the world, Mom will have generations upon generations tracing their family tree back to her. An amazing legacy for an amazing woman.
Joining our Lord on December 30th, 2023 she is survived by her children Damien (Christy) Harris, Ta’mara (Mohammed) Khan, Dominique (Mandy) Harris, Tiffani (Semere) Melake, and DiAngelo (Michelle) Harris. 12 Grand Children Brandon, Ashley, Madeleine, Sofia, Aneesah, Rafan, Ari, Brody, Cooper, Aliana, Jaiden, and Cash. Her sisters Virginia (Denny) Biggs and Michelle (Bob) Irwin. By her Brother Ron (Sharon) Goulet and many beloved nieces and nephews.
