Sad news I just learned. Sorry to hear of the passing of Master Chief. I served under him for two years on the Point Doran. He was a true Coastie and new how to command; low ego and gave credit where credit was due. Sail on Master Chief.

My husband and I were so sorry to learn of Master Chief's passing. He was such a wonderful person. My husband worked for him in the Coast Guard while we were stationed out in Washington. His wife Linda held my baby shower for me at their home, and Master Chief made my new daughter a beautiful rocking horse. We are thankful to have know him and that he touched our lives. We are very sorry for your loss.

Our love and deepest condolences to the Visser family. Rather than say goodbye it is tradition in the Hawaiian culture to say "A hui hou" which means, until we meet again. Rest in Paradise Master Chief...Aloha!

Please accept my deepest condolences, warmest wishes and heartfelt prayers to all. Howard's passing leaves emptiness in my heart for a man who helped me become a man; and a deep sadness for a family who kept me close. Time has taken us all different directions, but the memories will forever keep us connected. The joy that one man brought to so many, will never be forgotten. Howard was my friend and my mentor, and even in his absence I will always seek his counsel.

One of my fondest memories, and one that showcased your tenacity for life was holding a burial at sea for your coffee cup "soggy bottoms". We brought the Cutter all stop, dressed up, rang the bell and marked its final spot on the chart. Serving under you was a privilege I will cherish the rest of my life. I keep a photo of you in my hat box, because to were what a Master Chief was suppose to be, and every Chief should inspire to emulate. Thank you for the great memories. R.I.P Master Chief.
