Joy E. Lindborg, 87, died on July 24, 2021. She was born December 18, 1934, in Everett, Washington, to Ione and Clyde Turner. She grew up in Marysville, and attended Marysville High School. In 1957 she married John Westlund, and they had two children, Monte and Jennie – the family lived in “the blue house,” on Getchell Hill, next door to John’s parents. John died in 1963, and in 1967, Joy married Vincent (Val) Lindborg and they lived in the Lindborg family home on Getchell Hill. Val’s children from his first marriage, Lance, Link and LeSanne, came to live with them, and the house was full of kids and activity. Joy loved hosting big family gatherings, and had many happy memories of pool parties and barbecues. Joy and Val enjoyed traveling, and, after Val’s retirement, took up golfing and took many golf and RV trips with friends, in addition to cruises and trips to Hawaii. Joy and Val were married for 45 years, until his death in 2013. In 2017 Joy sold the family home and moved into a retirement community in Everett.
Joy loved gardening, knitting, sewing, and especially, traveling. After her move to Everett, her travels included trips to Hawaii, an Alaskan Cruise, and a trip to Southern Oregon to view the total solar eclipse. It was, she proclaimed, “awesome!” And so was she.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Virginia, and survived by sisters Barbara and Jewel (her twin). She is survived by children Monte Westlund (wife Susan McNutt), Jennie Westlund (husband Simon Thorn), and stepchildren Lance Lindborg, Link Lindborg (wife Rainy Ho) and LeSanne Lindborg, in addition to grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of Joy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2:00pm, at Schaefer Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the cause of your choice.
