It is with great sadness that the family of Kevin L. Gusman announces his passing on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Kevin is survived by his beloved mother, Karen (Sikveland) Magnuson, and (dad) Dave Magnuson; Linda Johnson, his constant companion and the love of his life; siblings Monica Englert, Dennis Gusman, Marcella Atkinson, and Elizabeth Diltz; in-laws Margaret, Scott and Stu, and nieces and nephews Odin, Garrett, Savanna, Tyson, Alyssa, Ariel and Alexis. Kevin’s professional career ended as a Commercial Construction Superintendent, working for his best friend, Ken Schueller, at Davis-Schueller, in Seattle. Kevin was predeceased by his father Lou Gusman. Kevin was a man of considerable faith, motivation, strength and courage, and he was an inspiration before and after the tragic diving accident that rendered him quadriplegic in 2007. Kevin demonstrated deep affection for his family, friends, and community and by choosing to use his God-given talents, through acts of selfless generosity, he blessed many throughout the course of his life. Friends and family knew that they could confide in him, completely assured of his thoughtful counsel and discretion. Kevin’s eyes frequently twinkled with mirth, and a smile on his lips made others respond in kind. Kevin loved people, and he was responsible for bringing together many individuals from different walks of life into an unending circle of friendship. Kevin was known for his tremendous energy and enjoyment of life, in work and in leisure, and for holding himself to the highest standards of excellence, and encouraging others to the same. He began his career at the Marysville Globe, where for several years he worked as Production Manager, adding value and enjoying solid friendships with his employer and colleagues. Kevin was a gifted wood worker, and he created beautiful items of hand- crafted furniture. He was a self- taught carpenter, and he adhered to the principal that his grandfather, Njadl Sikveland, had reminded him once as a boy --do a job right, the first time, with pride (and for longevity). Kevin bought property in Lake Stevens and built his own house at the age of 19. He lived in this home, with additions, for the remainder of his life. Kevin was a competitive baseball/softball player, and as a youth he relished long hours practicing in the backyard with his brother, Denny, playing on numerous teams with him. He was also a member of a traveling softball team with his lifelong friends James “Ole” Olson and Rick Mallory. Kevin was an avid sports fisherman, and he greatly enjoyed being out on the water fishing for halibut and king salmon in his Grady-White. An annual highlight for Kevin were his trips to Canadian waters. Unplugged and free, he would fully relax, fishing with his best fishing buddies. A Celebration of Kevin’s life will be held on Saturday, April 21, at 11:00 a.m., at the Shafer-Shipman funeral home in Marysville.
