

Lorraine Eldrie Mayer passed away May 26, 2012 in Everett, Washington. She was 91 and a longtime resident of Marysville.
Lorraine was born in De Smet, South Dakota on February 1, 1921 to Earl and Carrie (Larson) McGarvie. After graduating from high school she worked in an insurance office in De Smet. She moved to Seattle in 1942, where she was employed by the War Department at the Port of Embarkation. After the war she enjoyed a long career with the U.S. Air Force at Paine Field in Everett as a civil service finance officer.
Following her retirement, Lorraine continued to work as a tax preparer with H & R Block. She volunteered at the Snohomish County Visitor Information Center and did tax preparation as a volunteer at the Marysville Senior Center.
Lorraine was an avid traveler, visiting many parts of the world including China when it was first opened to tourists. She visited 49 states and made several trips to Europe and Asia, and also enjoyed many cruises.
Lorraine had a lifelong passion for bridge and belonged to several clubs in Marysville. She enjoyed entertaining and spending time with friends and family and her dog Muffy. Lorraine was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi International sorority in both Seattle and Everett. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Marysville.
Lorraine recently resided at Grandview Village in Marysville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Donald McGarvie of Pennsylvania. She is survived by her sisters Lois Van Slyke of Shelton, Washington and Carolyn Aadland of Centralia, Washington, nieces Karen (Rod) Heefner, Melanie (Bob) Appel, and Carrie Aadland, nephews Paul (Carolyn) McGarvie, Scott (Barbara) McGarvie, David Van Slyke, and Donald (Alana) Van Slyke, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and her caregiver Heidi Neisinger.
A family memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in De Smet, South Dakota.
