Dick, 81, died the morning of Sept 7 at Bethany Home in Everett following surgery on Aug 7.
He was born in Avon, Minnesota, and lived almost his entire life in Granite Falls. He resided the past 4 years at The Village, an assisted living facility, and it was a very happy time of his life, thoroughly enjoying the close friendship of the residents and staff. Dick was a very dedicated fan of the Mariners, and especially enjoyed Wie bowling at the Village with friends Stan, Don, Tony, Bob and Herb, along with others.
Dick served 2 years in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 1603rd Anti Aircraft Artillery unit at Kimpo Air Base near Seoul, Korea, as a gun crewman for nearly 20 months and received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars - United Nations Service Medal.
Dick worked most of his adult life as a logger in the Granite Falls area. Several years before his retirement, he worked at rafting logs
in the Renton area. He suffered from a bout with polio as a young man in Minnesota, and complications from this disease in his left hip forced
him into early retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; and is survived by Sisters MaryAnn Blythe, Beatrice Lewis, Judy Girven; Brother David;
Brother-in-law Don Girven; and 5 nieces and 2 nephews.
Graveside services will be held at the Granite Falls Cemetary at 2 PM, Sept 16, with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Granite Falls
Senior Center, lunch will be served.
Donations may be made in Dick's behalf to the Granite Falls Fire Dept.
