

Bob “Gus” was born July 4, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio to Gustav B. and Mary E. Schultz. He graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 1948 were he was a member of the first football team at Reynoldsburg. He played left tackle and earned letters in all sports. He attended Miami University at Oxford, Ohio; Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio; Chabot Jr. College, in Livermore, California. He earned an Associate Degree in Air Transportation & Business from Highline College in Midway, Washington in 1986.
He joined the Naval Air Reserve, Navy Air Station in Columbus, Ohio. He was called to active duty for the Korean Conflict. He was released from active duty to civilian life where he went into the insurance field as an agent for Monumental Life Insurance; district agent for the Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance Company in Galion, Ohio; agent for the Republic-Franklin Insurance Company in Columbus, Ohio.
He was recalled to active duty in 1963 for the Vietnam Conflict stationed at NAS Grosse LLE, Michigan. Duties during Bob’s naval career included; instructor-recruiter; aircraft line supervisor; power plants supervisor; Shore Patrol Officer, and squadron supply officer. He transferred to the Fleet Reserve in November of 1980, duty stations included, Naval Air Station Columbus, Ohio; Naval Air Station Grosse IIe, Michigan; Naval Air Reserve Training Unit; Clinton County AFB in Wilmington, Ohio; Naval Air Station in Seattle, WA; Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, WA; Naval Air Reserve Unit, Alameda, CA attached to ATKRON-304; and Naval Air Station Los Alamitos, CA.
Bob retired from Boeing in Everett, Washington as clerk/dispatcher in 1995. He was former originator and director of Faith Lutheran “ARTOS” food program providing service to the Everett Gospel Mission with venison and foodstuffs. He was past president of the Faith Lutheran Church Congregation. He was a former Republican precinct committeeman for LOMA precinct; former member and Chief of Galena, Ohio Fire Department; member of the American Legion Band, Galion, Ohio; Everett Eagles Band, Everett, WA; Everett Community College Band; member of American Legion Post #49, Wilmington, Ohio; Master Mason Lodge #129 in Arlington, WA; Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Branch #170, Everett, WA; and a volunteer counselor with the Retire Activities Office (RAO) Smokey Point Navy Complex.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 50 years, Clara M. Schultz who was a registered nurse.
Bob is survived by his wife, Charlene J. Schultz; son, David and wife Peggy with their children, Travis and Elizabeth of Arlington; daughters, Anita Simonton and husband, Mark with their children, Peter and Sarah of Monore, WA, and Cheryl Schultz-Szabo with her children, Carl, Jonathan and Hannah of Maplewood, MN; step-sons, Tim and Vicki Adams and family of Arlington; and Mike and Sylvia Adams and family of Redding, CA; and step-daughter, Sherri Sears and family of Snohomish, WA;
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church of North Lakewood, WA 98259 with Pastor Paul Anderson officiating on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 – 5 PM. Final interment at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA will follow at a later date.
