Ruth Marie Hamlin

Ruth Hamlin was born on Jan. 9, 1931 in Holabird, SD to Vincent and Gladys Nicholson. She grew up in Holabird until her family moved to Edmonds, WA just before her senior year of high school. The move was hard for Ruth because she was already in love with her one true love, Jack. But they survived the year, and, in 1949, she moved back to South Dakota. Jack and Ruth were married on Aug. 12, 1949 and were so happy together until his passing in 2005.

A few years after their marriage, Jack was burned while working on a car. After that, the hot summers in South Dakota were hard on him so they packed up the 3 children they had at the time and moved to WA in 1953.

Ruth said she'd always wanted to have her own daycare but that didn't work out, so she and Jack had their own. 3 girls and 4 boys were born to this loving, caring couple. In addition to their own, they also took in other children for as long as the children needed a place to stay.

Ruth loved her family and enjoyed going to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's ball games and school programs. She also loved her church, 92nd Street Church of Christ, and the family she had there.

Missing her are her children: JoAnn (Gary), Randy, Jacque (Jay), Janice (Dennis), Rich (Sherri), Rod (Betty) and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kevin (Darrcie, Ashlie & Anna), Kerri (Steve), Mark (Jessica, Kenley & Blake), Amy (Chris, Cameron & Carson), Jeff (Alison, Braden & Lucy), Lisa (Becky, Chloe, Miles & Ella), Darren (Kim, Addison & Jackson), Brandon (Judy & Elijah), Jared (Julianne), Ryan, Justin (Angela, Sydney & Emily), Jake, and Joel (Amanda, Cash, Knox, Raelynn & Kasen). She is also missed by her sisters-in-law Elaine and Leona in South Dakota, plus numerous nieces and nephews - all of whom she loved.

Welcoming her into Heaven are her husband Jack, her son Ron, her daughter-in-law Judy, her grandson Mike, her parents, and all her brothers and sisters.

A memorial service for Ruth will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM at 92nd Street Church of Christ, 4226 92nd St NE, Marysville, WA 98270. At the request of the family, due to allergies, please refrain from wearing fragrances to the service. Donations can be made in Ruth's name to the 92nd Street Church of Christ or to a charity of your choice.
