William Goncalves, known affectionately by his friends as "Raider," passed away on October 28, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on July 29, 1962, Bill was a resident of Massapequa Pk, New York. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, devotion, and steadfast love for those around him.
William was a beloved father to his sons, William, Christopher, and Matthew. He was a devoted and thoughtful brother to Tommy and his wife Rochelle, as well as to Lori and her husband Larry. Additionally, William was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Known for his enthusiasm for sports, Bill was not only a fanatical supporter of the Raiders, Islanders, Knicks, and Yankees, but he was also highly talented on the field himself. Dubbed "the man with the golden arm," William came close to a football field-length throw and even tried out for both the Mets and Yankees. His skills ensured he excelled in the Babe Ruth Hall of Fame League as a fierce competitor. Beyond sports, William enjoyed music, movies, and TV shows. Favorite activities included watching shows like Game of Thrones and The Sopranos and quoting classics such as The Odd Couple and The Honeymooners, with "The Godfather" holding a special place as his all-time favorite film. Ever a faithful Catholic, watching "The Ten Commandments" was an Easter Sunday tradition for him. William frequently obliged his sweet tooth, ensuring ice cream and snacks were on hand, much to his family's delight. A member of the Kiss Army and a lover of Van Halen, he could often be found "turning it up" to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
However, beyond his interests and passions was Williams profound love and unwavering dedication to his family. Every game, practice, and aspiration of his children was met with encouragement and involvement from their proud father. Friends of "Raider" are assured their fond memories with him will echo throughout their lifetimes.
The funeral services will include a visitation held on November 4, 2025, from 4:20 pm to 9:20 pm at James Funeral Home, located at 540 Broadway, Massapequa, NY. Interment services will be conducted at 10:00 am on November 5, 2025, at Flushing Cemetery, located at 163-06 46th Ave, New York, NY.
The Goncalves family wishes to thank everyone for their condolences, prayers, and understanding during this solemn time. In submitting these offerings, may they tide through difficulty, finding solace in Raider's loving memory.
He indeed will be widely missed. Rest in peace, dear Bill.
