She was the loving mother of Ignatius Salvo (Karen) of Newton Falls, Ohio, Palma Hill (Gary) of Eastlake, Ohio, Carmela Hill (Dennis) of Streetsboro, Ohio and Rosanne Darrow of Exton, Pennsylvania and the sister of Sam Pinzone of Brookpark, Ohio.
Isabella was very proud of her four grandchildren, Lauren Cohen (Dan) of University Heights, Ohio, Spencer Hill, Jared Hill, and Matthew Hill of Eastlake, Ohio, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her son-in-law, Doug Darrow, brother Cono Pinzone, and her parents, Frank and Carmela Pinzone.
Isabella was born June 26th, 1937 in the town of Tortorici, in the province of Messina, on the island of Sicily.
Orphaned in World War II, she, along with her two brothers, were taken in by their Uncle Giuseppe Pinzone and cared for on his farm in Caronia with his six other children. She left Italy for Cleveland (via Ellis Island) at the age of 16 with her younger twin brothers, Sam and Cono, to live with their Uncle Sebastian Pinzone. Upon arriving she made a name for herself as an industrious hard-working person, never complaining about life’s challenges. Although only three years older than her brothers, she was a mother and sister to them.
Isabella was known among friends and family as an amazing cook. She used her culinary expertise at Hawken Prep School in Gates Mills, Ohio. Despite very little formal education, upon retirement, she became an honorary graduate of the prestigious school.
She loved cooking, gardening, and her large flower patch surrounding her home. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses she loved sharing the Bible with others. Even when she was in a lot of pain and in the hospital she would share her knowledge of the Bible with those caring for her. She taught her children to have love for others and her God Jehovah. She will be missed by friends and family in Italy and the United States.
