

Newburgh, NY - Mrs. Lottie E. Moss (nee Jones) 91, transitioned from this life on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Elant Meadow Hill Nursing Facility in Newburgh, New York. Lottie was born on June 17, 1926 in Maysville, KY to the late William Richard and Mary Edith Peters Jones. She was the second of seven children. Lottie was considered an exceptional student and graduated at age 15 from John G. Fee School, Maysville, KY on June 3, 1942. At age 16 she attended Clark College, Atlanta, GA. At age 17 she attended Tennessee State College in Nashville, TN.
Lottie married J.C. Moss of Newburgh, NY who preceded her in death.
She retired from J.C. Penny at the Mid-Valley Mall, Newburgh, NY after 17 years of service. Later she worked as a foster grandparent, in this role, she supported pre-school students as a teacher’s aide. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Scott United Methodist Church, Maysville, KY where she participated fully in the life of the church. When she moved to Newburgh she joined the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church under the leadership of Reverend Jones. During her days of being homebound, Pastor Milton Stubbs visited and served her Holy Communion. She enjoyed reading and watching Law and Order. She also enjoyed watching the boats on the beautiful Hudson River.
Lottie leaves to mourn one loving and devoted son, Kenneth T. Gibbs of Newburgh, NY. She was affectionately called grandma by all her neighbors. She is survived by one brother, Paul K. Jones of Calumet City, IL. Also, she leaves to mourn her passing a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was proceded in death by five siblings, William R., Lewis A., Nancy M., Larry A., and Willa J. Jones.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Washington Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Simpson officiating. Visitation will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home from 5:30 PM to 7 PM on Friday, September 22, 2017.
