Barbara Dreylinger Shuptrine was born in New York on June 15, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Eli and Peggy Dreylinger. She and her brother, John Paul, were raised in North Carolina and Virginia. Barbara was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia and Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. Barbara married Dr. James (Jim) E. Greene, Jr. in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1957. They lived briefly in Jim’s hometown, Athens, Georgia, then moved to Atlanta where they raised two daughters, Jennifer and Margaret (Molly). Barbara had an estate sale business for several years and worked in social services, primarily serving the needs of senior citizens. Jennifer is married to Charles Ammons. They live in McDonough and have one daughter, Sarah Kate. Molly is married to Joseph Jung. They live in Chennai, India and have two daughters, Heidi and Johana. Barbara moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia after she and Jim divorced in 1988. She married John S. Shuptrine, III in 1995. Barbara was an enthusiastic volunteer for the American Red Cross serving on disaster teams in Florida, Missouri and Georgia. Barbara and John lived in Odum, Georgia until 2006 when they moved to Covington, Georgia to be closer to their children, including John’s daughters, Marilyn Shuptrine Ferguson and the late Janet Shuptrine Steger. John passed away in January 2007. Barbara, Jennifer, Charles and Sarah Kate moved to McDonough, Georgia in 2011. Barbara joined Wesley Way United Methodist Church where she met her sweetheart, Perry Crowe, a fellow member of the Ramblers. Perry and Barbara celebrated a civil commitment ceremony in 2016. They were fixtures at the Huddle House in McDonough and spent many wonderful hours at the home of Perry’s daughter, Tammy, in Williamson, Georgia. Tammy is married to Tommy Denton, and they have two daughters, Amanda and Brittany. Barbara also enjoyed getting to know Perry’s son, Jamie, who lives in Portland, Oregon. Perry and Barbara lived with their beloved Pomeranian, Simone. Barbara struggled with dementia during the last years of her life and was hospitalized most recently in February 2020. Her family is especially thankful for the team on Four North at Piedmont Henry Hospital for their thoughtfulness and care. Barbara spent the last two weeks in hospice care at Laurel Park in Stockbridge, Georgia. She passed away on March 4, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the American Red Cross, the International Justice Mission, or Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Wesley Way United Methodist Church in McDonough, GA. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm - 2:00pm prior to the service.
