Our sweet, amazing mother, Betty Jean Thompson left our world on Wednesday February 7, 2024, to go explore the great beyond and to join her parents Mildred and William, and sibling, Dale. Mamo, the name that Betty was called, is the name that all the family used for her. It was a name given to her by her eldest granddaughter, Katie. Mamo, born on July 8th, 1948, was an adventurous loving spirit, an artist, a mother, a grandmother, and a wife. She devoted her life to her family and was always there for all of us. She had a kind and giving heart. Her love was more than enough to create and sustain a foundation strong enough to hold our family up through all of life’s challenges. Her amazing sense of humor brought the brightest light into every room and shined as beautifully as her unbelievable Christmas trees that she decorated every year. We cannot begin to put into words what our Mamo meant to us and describe everything that she did for our family. Growing up, she made sure that our home was filled with love, our bellies stayed full, our moral compasses stayed in line, and ensured that each day our lives were filled with happiness. No holiday went uncelebrated as she made sure that each of us felt as special as she possibly could. From her love of upbeat music and dancing to crazy parties she planned, to the wonderful family vacations, our childhood never had a dull moment and none of us ever felt woeful. Mamo will forever be the pinnacle of what a mother, a wife, a grandmother, and of what a woman should strive to be like. We are incredibly and exceptionally thankful to have been blessed with Mamo in our lives and each one of us has a piece of them missing without her.
Her story will never be forgotten, and the memories she created with those in her life will last forevermore. The bonds she formed and the family legacy she created spread out so widely, from coworkers during her working days, to her husband Jimmy Thompson, and their three sons Jim, Jeff, and Joey. Her legacy reached even further to her grandchildren Katie, Shaylin, Gabriel, and Ayana.
Mamo was a dreamer at heart, her biggest dream was to rent a camper and explore what this world had to offer. To paint the sights she would see and hold dear to her. Her words will forever echo in the minds and hearts of those close to her. Of her encouragement, telling us all to live our lives to the fullest, to travel and see the world, and to not let sadness consume us.
