Brenda Diane (Brewer White) Goodson was born in Covington, GA on November 10th, 1953, to Charlie Spencer White and Sarah Alberta Brewer. She was the eldest of nine children: 6 girls and 3 boys. Brenda married her high school sweetheart Jesse Lee Goodson on May 9th, 1973, and graduated from Brown High in Atlanta at the end of May of 1973. Through her union with Jesse, Brenda became the mother of two daughters: Euteva DeBorah born November 1973 in Atlanta, GA, and Clarissa Yvonne born January 1977 in Beaufort SC. Brenda was also the Nana of two grandchildren: Marisa Janae Silver and Maurice Jamieson Goodson both born in Greensboro, NC (October 1999 and May 2002, respectively). As a loving wife of a US Marine, Brenda lived in South Carolina, Washington State, Scotland, Louisiana, and North Carolina, before settling down in McDonough, GA in September of 2007. Any and everyone who ever talked with Brenda knew that she dearly loved her family and was proud of them. While she enjoyed family life, Brenda was thoroughly involved with outside interests. Her main interest was children and their education. Her passion for children and their education led her to become a Head Start teacher, a Center coordinator, and work with the Summer Feeding Program in North Carolina until she moved back to Georgia in 2007. Once in Georgia, she decided to retire from early childhood education. In retirement, her focus turned to community involvement and completing her degree. Brenda was heavily involved with the McDonough Youth Advisory Council (MYAC), was on the McDonough Zoning Appeal Board, and was a very active volunteer with Miracle Mission Hope House. While helping with her grandchildren which included homeschooling her grandson for a year, keeping up her home, being there for other family members, and working in the community, Brenda received her bachelor’s degree in psychology in December of 2018 from Point University. Then in June of 2021, she received her master’s degree in human services from Perdue University Global. Brenda loved to read and was always open to learning new things. She enjoyed exploring and displaying her creative side, especially through baking, this was evident with how delicious her peach cobbler was. Brenda always took time each morning to enjoy a cup of coffee in the sun accompanied by her daily devotional time of prayer, reading and studying the scripture, and spending time with God. Brenda’s smile, laughter, sense of humor, and her ability to just love people will be missed. Brenda was proceeded in death by her mother Sarah Alberta Brewer White, her father Charlie Spencer White, her brother Tommy White, her sister Chandra Charlene White Brown, and her brother in-love Calvin Sawyer. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 50 years, Jesse Goodson; her daughters Euteva Goodson and Clarissa Goodson; her grandchildren Marisa Silver and Maurice Goodson; her siblings Charles White, Stephanie (Bev) White, Deirdre (Penny) Kirkland, Robert (Dickie) White, Princess (Cap) Chambers, and Eleanor (Mimi) White; her Cousin/Auntie Eleanor (Babysister) Shaw; her Mother in-love Helen Goodson; her siblings in-loves Cynthia Goodson, Marcia Sawyer, Beverly Goodson, Marilyn Goodson, Charles Kirkland, Jonecia White, Eric Brown, and Donald Chambers; a host of nieces and nephews, although the number is great, each one was special to her and she spoke about each one dearly; a host of cousins and friends.
Our Beloved Brenda
-By Destiny McGriff
To outsiders looking in
you were a regular woman.
But to us, you were a sovereign.
Kind and well-spoken
Perfect indeed.
It’s sad to see you go, oh so soon.
But I know you’ll be in a place
Where golden bells ring and angels sing.
Your kindness is to be remembered.
You have the most golden heart.
Our Beloved Brenda, rest well and FLY far.
