

Brittanie Shanell Gilgeours was born on Monday, March 10, 1986, at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, to her loving parents, Hazel and Malcolm Gilgeours. She was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend, and a treasured part of her family.
Brittanie spent her early years in Brooklyn before relocating with her family to Piscataway, New Jersey. She attended Piscataway High School, where she participated in choir and color guard. She graduated in 2004 and continued her education at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, where she studied Pre-Law.
Brittanie later relocated to Riverdale, Georgia, where she worked in the family business, Healthstaff Services. She became a very important member of the office staff and was known for the care, pride, and dedication she brought to her parents’ business each day. Through her work at Healthstaff Services, Brittanie developed a deep appreciation for the medical field. That passion inspired her to return to school and pursue her nursing license at Chamberlain University.
Before her untimely passing, Brittanie had successfully completed two semesters and was preparing to begin her clinical rotation. She was recently recognized for her academic excellence by earning placement on the Dean’s List, a distinction that reflected her intelligence, commitment, and determination.
Brittanie was hardworking, ambitious, and determined to reach her goals. She was a true go-getter and was never afraid of hard work, especially when it came to building the life she envisioned for herself. She was focused on her future and took pride in working toward her personal, professional, and financial goals.
Beyond her accomplishments, Brittanie was full of personality, love, and style. She enjoyed online shopping and had a gift for staying on top of the latest fashions, accessories, and trends. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed spending vacations at the beach or visiting new cities where she could explore the local culinary scene.
One of Brittanie’s favorite things to do was spend time with her brother, Gavin. Together, they loved traveling around the city and trying new restaurants. Brittanie had a special talent for finding hidden-gem restaurants and unique dishes that made every outing memorable. Britanie, Gavin, and her cousins, Jeffery Jr., Tiffany, Tammy, Carmella, Tracy, Jamar, Sonia planned annual cousins’ trips in March where together they would travel to different states and countries such as Mexico, Texas, New York, and Washington D.C..
Brittanie was gifted in many ways. She was a great chef, a beautiful singer, and a natural leader. She had a warm and memorable presence, and she brought her own special energy into every space she entered.
Above all, Brittanie loved her family deeply. She showed up for the people she loved and had her own unique relationship with each family member. She encouraged others to love one another, to stay connected, and to always be themselves. She made an effort to reach out, check in, and let her family know they were cared for.
Brittanie also had a special love for her two fur babies, Diamond and Million, lovingly known as Millie. She loved them dearly throughout their lives. Brittanie dreamed of one day having a family of her own, and that loving spirit was evident in the way she cared for and interacted with the children in her family.
On Friday, June 19, Brittanie peacefully fell asleep in death. Though her life ended far too soon, the love she gave, the memories she created, and the impact she made will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Brittanie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Alice and Ferdinand Gilgeours; her maternal grandparents, Arnold and Jean Marcus. On her father’s side, she was preceded in death by Joe, John, Lionel, Leila, Mary and Hutton Gilgeours. On her mother’s side, she was preceded in death by Leon, Byron, and Desiree Marcus. Jeffrey, Wallace, Garth, Roxanne, Michelle, Carol, and Desiree.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving parents, Hazel and Malcolm Gilgeours; her beloved brother, Gavin; and her aunts and uncles Jeffrey, Wallace, Garth, Roxanne, Michelle, Carol, Frankie, Robin, Phillip, Gwenette, Bernice, Genie and a host of cousins, extended family members, friends, and all those who were blessed to cross paths with her.
Brittanie Shanell Gilgeours was a loving daughter, sister, cousin, granddaughter, and friend. She will be incredibly missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
