Evelyn Camille (Hagerty) Chaffin, 81, of Stockbridge, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Camille was born November 3, 1938 in Englewood, NJ to the late Harry Edward and Kathleen Groce Hagerty. She moved to Henry County when she was in 3rd grade and that’s when she first met Donald Chaffin, her husband of 61 years. Camille and Donald graduated from Henry County High School in 1956. Camille graduated from Emory University in 1960 with a degree in English. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenges of crossword puzzles. Her love for language was displayed in her desire to always find “the right word.” A woman of great faith who loved the Lord and studying His word, she served as a Sunday School teacher for most of her adult life. She learned early in life to listen and say yes to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and this transforming work in her made her beautiful. She was respected and admired for her wisdom, but it was her quick wit and gracious spirit that made her loved by so many. She was a long-time member of County Line Congregational Christian Church and attended Community Bible Church.
Camille is survived by her husband, three children: Donnie (Cheryl Green) Chaffin, Tammy (Tom) Lynde, and Dan (Lisa Pence) Chaffin, eleven grandchildren: Jennifer Chaffin, Benjamin Lynde, James Chaffin, Mark Chaffin, Abbi (Kris) Fregoso, Bethany Lynde (Lucian Bone), Brooke (Geoff) DeGroot, Hannah Lynde, Carlee Chaffin, Darcy Chaffin, and Eric Chaffin, great-granddaughter, Evelyn Bone, sister, Kathy (Sam) Allison, and many nieces and nephews.
Due to the restrictions related to COVID-19, a small graveside service will be held on Friday, April 17, for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to County Line Congregational Christian Church, 3913 Jonesboro Road, Hampton, GA 30228.
