Carol was a loving and generous wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her adoring husband of 63 years, Rafael Valdivieso; her children, John (Kathy) Valdivieso and Letitia Lock; her three grandchildren, Madeline Lock, Elon Valdivieso, and Holly Valdivieso.
Whether Carol was organizing picket lines or contributing to campaigns, she fought bravely to shape policy and advocate for civil rights and the rights of women and minorities. She earned her doctorate in Special Education Policy and spent years working as Vice President and Center Director at the nonprofit Academy for Educational Development for children with special needs and coordinating information services for their parents. Carol enjoyed sudoku, her koi pond, Elvis Presley, reruns of Columbo, growing tomato plants, eating good meals with her family, and traveling far and wide. She was intensely intelligent, adventurous, feisty, and beloved by many.
Carol loved animals dearly, so please feel welcomed to donate to one of her favorite charities, the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee (https://shop.elephants.com/give) in honor of Carol Valdivieso.
