He was born March 2nd, 1951, at Georgia Baptist Hospital to Dorothy Mae Romport (Shackleford) and Arthur Romport, Sr.
David went to school in Hapeville, GA throughout his life until graduating from Forest Park High School. He joined the Navy, serving as a medic from 1968–1972. After an honorable discharge, he went on to Civil Service work at Camp Lejeune as a brick mason for many years. He came back to Atlanta, GA where he met his beloved wife, Deborah Jones, and they spent their days being together. She’d make him eat healthy and cook him great meals, and he did the grocery shopping. They loved music and laughing together. He finished his work career at Phoenix Foods for the last decades and retired 2 years ago to care for his precious wife when she became sick.
David was always kind and smiling, hard-working, a major sports fan of all types, but none like his Atlanta Braves. He grew up watching with his father and brother. An avid guitar player and music lover, he never missed a chance to sing to you all ’70s music along with music trivia. He knew it all.
He is preceded in death by his beloved family: wife, Deborah Jones; mother, Dorothy Mae Romport (Shackleford); father, Arthur Romport, Sr. “Akey”; brother, Arthur Romport, Jr. “Archie”; sister, Jeannie “Doreen” Lawrence. What a homecoming!
He is survived by his loving nieces and nephews: Robin (Carl) Green, McDonough, GA; Melodee (Robbie) Browder, Forest Park, GA; Trudy (Tommy) Sorrells, Piedmont, SC; Josh (Sonja) Lawrence, Piedmont, SC; Terry Jones, Piedmont, SC; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Haisten Funerals & Cremations, 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough, GA 30253, US, on August 6, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service in the Haisten Chapel at 1:00 pm.
