He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 19, 1942, to the late Charles Perrion and Mary Newsome Stroup. Dewey is survived by the absolute love of his life, Anita Louise Stroup, their three children, Debbie (Bert), Doug (Amy), and David (Melissa), 13 grandchildren (9 grandchildren-in-laws), 15 great-grandchildren, and Violet, his chihuahua. He is also survived by his younger brothers, Ronald and Randy.
Dewey served in the US Coast Guard Reserves for 32 years. After spending 40 years in the printing industry, he became a real estate agent, helping families find homes for almost 20 years. He was an active member of Community Bible Church for over 30 years, singing in the Chapel choir and attending bible study on a regular basis.
He was not only active in church, but also in the Ola community where he resided for 40 years. Dewey never met a stranger and could make a new best friend everywhere he went. He loved to spend his time golfing, fishing, and gardening. Dewey was also a passionate hunter, traveling to Canada and Africa hunting big game.
Dewey was an avid sports fan. In his younger years, he coached youth baseball, basketball, track, and football, helping hundreds of children find the love of the game. While he LOVED the Braves and the Falcons, he would also watch any sport, anytime, anywhere.
Dewey and Anita were married for 65 years. During their marriage they took countless cruises and traveled the world together, swimming with sharks in the Caribbean, scuba diving in Bimini, and whale watching in Alaska. They also traveled to Europe and the UK, completing mission trips in Germany, driving through the moors of Scotland, and seeing the tulip fields of the Netherlands.
Dewey was very passionate in his support of the Spicy Grove Youth Center in Oracabessa, Jamaica. He visited their center numerous times, building benches and cabinets, as well as sponsoring several children and spreading the love of God. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Dewey Stroup Memorial Fund at Spicy Grove Ministries (spicygrove.org/donate).
A visitation will be held Saturday, August 22 from 12:00pm-2:00pm at Community Bible Church (2001 Jodeco Rd, Stockbridge, GA 30281), followed by a celebration service of his life at 2:00pm. He will be buried at Eastlawn Memorial Park (640 McGarity Rd, McDonough, GA 30252) on Sunday, August 23 at 2:00pm.
