Donald Leo Smith, Sr.

Donald Leo Smith, Sr., age 85, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Don was born April 8, 1937 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Leo Edward and Nellie Bright Smith. He was preceded in death by an aunt and uncle, Clara and Lloyd Lemmon and a cousin, David Lemmon. He served his country in the United States Army and retired from Shaddix Marine. Don loved western movies, fishing and classic cars. He enjoyed listening to oldies music and the Statler Brothers. Don was known as "the man in the cowboy hat." Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Janee Fournier Smith; children, Regina (Allen) Thomas, Laura Smith and Donny (Dawn) Smith; grandchildren, Bailey Smith, Austin Smith, Madeleine Thomas, Hayleigh Smith and Sawyer Smith; honorary grandson, Adam Zant; brother, Joe (Gail) Smith; nieces and nephews, Tammy (Eddie) Patterson, Stephanie Smith, Jason (Kyna) Smith and BJ Smith; numerous great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 - 11:00 am in the Haisten Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit the family Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Don.
