She is survived by her sons Sam (Rebecca) and Christopher (Theresa), her daughter-in-law Lisa Spivey, her six grandchildren, her 10 great-grandchildren, and close family friends Annette “Nettie” Newman, Neil (Kat, Alexandria), Spence (Jaime, Hunter, Teagan) Newman, the Reeves Cousins, and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Her beloved husband Sam, her son Michael and her parents predeceased her.
Dorothy was born July 1932 in Dearborn, Michigan to Homer Kelley Sikes and Floy Alice Reeves Sikes. She attended Elementary school in Dearborn. Her high school years were spent at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan where she was a member of the Discussion /Debate team, the Thespian Team and the National Honor Society. She graduated from the Nursing Program affiliated with Wheaton College in Illinois. She married Sam in 1971. Through the years Dorothy worked in many nursing areas and lastly as director of nursing before she and Sam retired to McDonough, Georgia in 1983.
Dorothy and Sam joined Oakland Baptist Church in 1985, where she served as Sunday School Director, on the Missions Team, in Women’s Ministry and in PrimeTimer’s. She was co-chair of the Henry Association Team during the 1996 Olympics. She was part of two mission teams; one to Alaska, one to Costa Rica. Dorothy loved her family, her friends and her church but foremost she loved her Lord and Savior.
Services for Dorothy will be Friday, August 28, 2026 at Oakland Baptist Church. Visitation at 10:00 with service following at 11:00; interment at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
