Eliseo M. Herrera, “Pops,” of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away on December 18, 2025, at the age of 84. Born to the late Ted A. Herrera and Maria Gayton de Herrera, he was one of many brothers and sisters in a large, blended family. He is preceded in death by his maternal siblings Esperanza, Ben, Mary, Hoover, Frank, Pete, and Saul, as well as his paternal siblings Ted, Priscilla, Albert, Magdalena, and Simon.
Pops lived a life filled with music, sports, and laughter. A gifted musician, he played the violin, sang, and was the proud drummer for the award-winning and Southern Gospel Hall of Fame inductee group The Galileans and The Singing Skylarks. His talent can be heard on numerous albums and his love of music remained a defining thread throughout his life.
An accomplished athlete in his younger years, Pops carried that passion forward by becoming an umpire, staying close to the game he loved, sharing the field for many years with his son, Jeremy. His sense of humor and playful spirit were constants—he delighted in making his children laugh with silly songs, jokes, and jingles.
He is survived by his four children: Tanya Windham (Jon) of Locust Grove; Jeremy Herrera of Jonesboro; Jonathan Herrera of Acworth; and Lindsey Tomlinson-Shirey (Travis) of McDonough. He also leaves behind multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother Orlando (Dorothy), sisters Lucy and Hannah, many nieces and nephews, and his sweet dog, Chloe, who never left his side.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, December 22, 2025 for a visitation at 12:00 p.m. and service immediately following at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Dan Atkinson officiating.
