Elton Lee Atwell came into this world on March 31, 1932 in the small town of Stoneham, Pennsylvania to Everett and Florence Atwell. He met and fell in love with Francis "Barb" Jones and she would become his rock and the foundation of the family to come.
Elton would grow to become a master carpenter building not only houses but also involved in the construction of Disney Land and Disney World. If you ever were in the Orlando theme park and looked to the clock at the end of Main Street USA then you witnessed his handiwork.
God's love for and use of carpenters is well known and Elton was no exception. He was called to Ministry in 1958 and began the task of building churches, both physically and spiritually. As an Ordained Bishop in Church of God, his ministerial work would take him through Pennsylvania, California, Texas, Florida and New York, to name a few, spreading the Gospel wherever he called home.
In his later years, as health issues mounted, Elton would continue ministering to others and showing them the way to salvation until on October 29, 2021 when the Lord called him home to be reunited with his wife Francis and parents Everett and Florence, his two sons Stephen and James, and his 7 siblings.
Bishop Elton Atwell's 89 years built a legacy that will live on through his children Kerry (& Kathy Jo) Atwell, Joyce (& Michael) Green, Mark (& Sheila Stokes) Atwell, Andrew (& Kathleen Scalise) Atwell and Barbara (& Dwayne) Wilson. He also lives on in the hearts of his 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 3, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Viewing will start 2 hours prior to service at Gracepoint Church of God located at 9823 South Main Street, Jonesboro GA. Elton will be laid to rest at the side of his beloved Francis in Sheffield, Pa.
