Erskine Hershel Thompson Jr.

Erskine "Hershel" Thompson, Jr., of McDonough, GA. Born October 4th, 1947 and died July 10th, 2021. On Saturday July 10th, Hershel made his final journey home to be with his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. He was a graduate of Bessemer High School class of 1966. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, Erskine Hershel Thompson, Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Harold "Wheeler" Fancher Sr. and Sula Fancher; and his paternal grandparents, Lemuel and Cora Thompson. Hershel is survived by his wife, Sylvia Zapanta Thompson; his mother, Wilma Fancher Thompson; two brothers, Howard Thompson of Bessemer, and Haschal Thompson (Renee) of McCalla; three children, Jennifer Thompson Whaley (Derek) of Winder GA; Kimberly Thompson Carr (Michael) of McDonough, GA; David Thompson of Mansfield GA; his six grandchildren, Colton, Traveler and Chayce Whaley of Winder GA, Austin and Ryan Hancock, Peyton Carr of McDonough GA; two step grandchildren, Rebekah Johnson (Sam) of McDonough, GA and Rachel Tanahill (Matthew) of Buford, GA; and one cousin who was like a brother, Harold Armstrong (Carla) of Trussville, AL. There will be graveside services at 10 AM on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude. Bessemer Brown Service directing.
