Fletcher David Patterson

Mr. Fletcher David Patterson, Jr., age 91, of McDonough, GA passed away peacefully on March 1, 2016 after an extended illness. He was born in Henry County the son of the late Elizabeth Odelle Knight Patterson and Fletcher David Patterson, Sr., and he was also preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Patterson. Mr. Patterson graduated from McDonough High School in 1941 and was drafted into the Army serving in the 106th Golden Lions Division in WWII. During the Battle of Bulge, he was captured by the German Army and was a Prisoner of War from December 1944 until his release in May of 1945. He returned home and became a dairy farmer and mail carrier. He was a lifelong member of Timberridge Presbyterian Church, was a member of the American Legion Post 55, McDonough, The McDonough Kiwanis Club and a charter member of the Henry County Moose Club. He was also a 4-H Club leader and Farm Bureau Director. He loved animals, working on the farm, dancing, barbecuing for the church, quail hunting, and spoiling his grandchildren who claim that he was the world’s best Papa. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Annie Ruth Patterson of McDonough; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Paula Patterson; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jim Flowers both of McDonough; grandchildren, David Patterson of Washington DC, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Carrie Ann and Andrew Cooper of Sandersville, GA; step grandchildren, Jennifer and Al Crisco of Stockbridge, Cindy and Troy Hale of Virginia, and 6 step great grandchildren; brother, Jack Patterson of McDonough and many beloved nieces and nephews. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Timberridge Presbyterian Church of McDonough, Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 5 – 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 – 2:00 PM at Timberridge Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Tom Bagley officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
