

George Samuel Standard passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 88. He was born in Butts County, Georgia on February 13, 1937 to the late George Harold and Doris E. Standard. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Claudine Strickland. After growing up on a dairy farm, he graduated from Jackson High School in 1955. Sam attended ABAC in Tifton, GA for a year and attended The University of Georgia and graduated in 1960 from the School of Pharmacy. Mr. Standard served three years in the US Army at Fort Jackson, while working in the Pharmacy there. He opened and operated a Pharmacy in McDonough for 25 years. He then went back to the farm in Butts County to raise beef cattle. Sam served as a deacon and treasurer for the First Baptist Church in McDonough and Chairman of the Board of McDonough Christian Academy, now Eagles Landing Christian Academy. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barry Thompson Standard, children Charles "Chuck" (Rayna) Samuel Standard of McDonough, George Michael (Julie) Standard of Jackson and Barry "Susan" (Steve) Cook of McDonough, eight grandchildren, Amanda Standard, Alyssa (Johnathan) Book, Carly (Caleb) Boggess, Sydney (Jacob) Swords, Tyler Standard and Justin, Brandon and Lauren Cook and seven great grandchildren, two nieces, Jody Tate and Dori (Barry) Copeland. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm - 2:00pm on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, GA. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm in our chapel.
