I remember Sanky as a young man of 19. I admired his athletic prowess and easy smile. He was fun to be around and we shared a lot of good times rabbit hunting. I grew up in Atlanta so didn't get to visit very often, but when I got down to Ola to visit my kin there, I usually made it a point to visit the Rutledge's as well. Getting to see Agnes didn't hurt either.

Sanky was a incredibly hard worker - as were all the Rutledge's. I recall a cotton picking contest between Sanky and older brother Lanier. They worked furiously from dawn to dusk. When the weigh-up and tally took place, it was discovered that the two contestants had collected exactly the same amount of cotton - over 500 pounds apiece as I recall.

Condolences to all the Rutledge family. My heart will always be with you.

Uncle Sanky you are one of my heroes and you will be missed and will always be in my heart. You will always remain legendary in my eyes like a Paul Bunyan tale, but you were stronger, braver, and a harder worker than Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue combined. I love you and will miss you dearly.
