It seems fitting that James Marion McLeod would pass away on the 4th of July. Marion loved his country and all the symbolism that came with it. He loved the glory displayed in the nation's flag, the power and grace of eagles, the excitement of a fireworks display and the honor of wearing the uniform of the United States Army. After his enlistment, Marion would go on to retire from another American Icon, General Motors.
A mere 40 days after his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Debra Ann went to the Lord in Heaven, Marion was reunited with her as well as his mother Marjorie and brother Ken.
Marion's love of family only grew in his retirement. Fishing was all the more enjoyable if his grandsons were with him. He took pride in driving his grandsons to school and picking them up in the afternoon. He was a man that could grill anything but loved cooking breakfast for anyone who would eat. His home was always open to any that needed a place to stay or a meal to eat.
Marion loved watching the "hometown" sports teams: Ga Bulldog football, Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves but also had a deep love for the Dallas Cowboys. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy were required watching each night.
"Grandaddy" could fix anything! Super Glue and Duct Tape were his tools of choice!
These stories and more will live on through his son Matthew McLeod, daughter Laura (David) Sewell, his father James E. McLeod, grandsons Austin, Parker and Brady Sewell as well as his siblings Jackie (Jimmy) Corbin, Charles McLeod, Phyllis Berry, Michael McLeod and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends of Marion and his family are invited to share their stories and condolences on Wednesday July 13, 2022, in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
