James Wallace "J.W." Tanner, Sr., age 90, of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away May 18, 2023. He was born June 20, 1932 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Oscar M. and Lela Wright Tanner. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. J.W. faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Ford Motor Company and was known for his work ethic. He enjoyed traveling, watching television and doting on his dog. He had the ability to fix anything and spent his time tinkering. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jennie Pack Tanner; children, Wally (Cheri) Tanner and their children, Brian, Racheal, Tracey and Amber Tanner; Dean Tanner; Delise (Craig) Manning and their son, Samuel Manning; Amy (Michael) Stinnett and their daughters, Becca Gaines, and Miley Stinnett; nine great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 - 2:00 pm at Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 N. Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Pastor Michael Yancey will officiate. Friends may visit the family Monday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Haisten Funeral Home, 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway South, McDonough, Georgia 30253.
