Jean Alexander, age 86, of Jackson, GA was born on December 31, 1936 in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Margaret & James Whindleton. Jean was the eldest of five children: two brothers, James Whindleton and Floyd Whindleton; and two sisters, Eartha Stevens & Margaret Whindleton – both pre-deceased.
Jean was a member of South Garden Baptist Church when as a young child she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized. After graduating from Jackson P. Burley High School in Charlottesville, Virginia, she moved to Newark, New Jersey where she met and married the late Eugene Alexander. Through their union, they had two children: Sandra Alexander & Carl Alexander, both raised in Newark, NJ and baptized at Hopewell Baptist Church.
In 1962, Jean found and accepted employment at Food Town Supermarkets and in 1999 after 37 years of dedicated service, she retired from the Supermarket industry.
Jean was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church for 41 years. She joined in 1968, under the leadership of the late Rev. Boyd B. Cantrell: she became a Willing Servant. In 1990, she joined the Board of Trustees and during the last 18 years, under the leadership of Pastor Jason Carl Guice, she presided over Hopewell’s Church Treasurey and President of the Willing Workers’ Committee. In 2009, upon moving to Jackson, GA she attended and later joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Jean was a member of the Mother’s Board and they loved her dearly.
She leaves to cherish her memory; Daughter Sandra Alexander, Son Carl Alexander, Granddaughter Rasheedah Lovett, Grandson in-law William Lovett, 2 Great Grandchildren William Lovett Jr. and Taylor Lovett, Sisters in-law Serleen Alexander and Christine Alexander, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Jean was loved and adored by her family, friends and church associates. However, God loved her best and so he called her home and said unto her, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord”.
