John N. Brown passed away at home on September 22, 2018 at the age of 68 after fighting pancreatic cancer with courage and his usual positive attitude. John (lovingly referred to as “Poppy” once he became a grandfather) is survived by his loving wife, Leslie; his mother-in-law, Eileen; his sister Barbara; his three children, Megan, Wes, and Kate; and his four grandchildren, Elaina, Isabel, Henry and Avery. He is preceded in death by his sister Nancy and his parents, Paul and Emma.
John spent his adult life studying culinary arts. He loved cooking for his family and found joy in hosting weekly family dinners for his children and spouses and later for his four grandchildren. He worked as a chef in several restaurants throughout the years, spending the majority of his career at the White House Restaurant in the Atlanta area. More recently, he discovered a passion in serving the elderly community by cooking at a county senior center and delivering food through the Meals on Wheels program. When he wasn’t cooking, John enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball and football. He could often be found discussing sports history and trivia and there weren’t many people who could beat his sports knowledge.
John was married almost 44 years and spent each and every day making sure his wife and family knew they were loved. He inspired positivity, proclaiming every family vacation as the “Best Vacation Ever” and using humor and wit to shine light onto even the darkest days. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, including nieces, nephews, and many other friends and family.
In honor of John’s life and his passion for making sure everyone is well-fed, please consider donating to the Meals on Wheels program: https://www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org/take-action/give
