John Douglas Thacker

Mr. John Douglas Thacker, age 71, of Locust Grove, GA passed away October 16, 2017. John was born in Neon, KY the son of the late Danola Holbrook Cantrell and Millard Cantrell. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Billy Ray Thacker.

John enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Cleveland, OH and served his country in the US Marines. John retired from Eastern Airlines and was a 2nd degree Black Belt as well as enjoyed teaching karate. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland sports teams (Cavaliers, Indians and Browns) as well as Ohio State Football. John was a free Mason and Shriner and enjoyed collecting money for their charities.

Survivors are his loving wife of 46 years, Judy Thacker; son and daughter-in-law, John and Jennifer Thacker of Locust Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Eliott Longley of Palm Harbor, FL; grandchildren, Mark Thacker, Brianna Thacker, Kayla Longley and Ella Longley; sister and brother-in-law, Ivory and Raymond Rucker of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM with a Funeral Service at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Pastor Davie Riley officiating. Interment will be on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The family and friends will be meeting at Georgia National by 10:00 AM.
