On September 26, 1972 a little baby boy was born to Earl and Lenna Johnson at Fordham Hospital in Bronx, New York at 4:56pm. Johnathan Ucal Johnson weighed in at 7lbs 12oz and 19 inches. This bundle of joy was an exceptional child who never gave any worries to his parents. He was always positive and saw the good in everything and everyone. He was strong willed and an introverted comedian. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but when John spoke, people listened. Johnathan had athletic aspirations, but his true passion led him to pursue art at an early age.
Johnathan began his education in the Dade-County Public School System graduating from South Miami Senior High in the Magnet Arts program in 1991. He attended Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota Florida, where he began his undergraduate degree in Arts. Johnathan was recognized as one of the most gifted Black Artist at Ringling as he received acknowledgements in several local media sources. His one of kind illustrations are a thing of beauty which were featured in collegiate art shows. John was a very skilled painter with an amazing eye for detail. He was inspired by the great Artist “Salvador Dali” and learned how to tell stories within his paintings. He concluded his undergraduate studies graduating from Atlanta School of Arts.
Johnathan’s innate artistic ability led him to a successful career in graphic arts and design. Upon graduation he established his own company, Jucal Studios highlighting his talent as a Freelance Graphic Artist. His illustrations were showcased across several platforms consisting of murals, book covers, faux painting, web design, and corporate logos just to name a few.
Johnathan united in holy matrimony to Erika Murphy in February 1996. To this union was born an eldest son Darius, only daughter Jalyn, and twins Kingston and Kendall. His love of family was legendary and only exceed by his devotion to his mother, which they would both describe as “best friends”. Most mother and sons are close to each other, but this mother and son had a beautiful bond.
