

Linda Bernhard Blackburn, aged 80, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2024, Linda faced her illness with remarkable grace and courage. Her passing was gentle, comforted by the presence of her sons, Richard and Tony, along with other loved ones who held her close in her final moments. She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Leon Blackburn, and her cherished puppy, bringing peace to those who loved her.
Born on October 19, 1944, to John Ed and Mary Bernhard, Linda lived a life defined by strength, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to her family. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she touched countless lives with her warmth and generosity.
Linda’s passion for travel was a hallmark of her life, and she was thrilled to recently embark on new adventures, creating precious memories with her family. Her adventurous spirit and love for exploring new places left an indelible mark on those who shared in her journeys.
Linda’s professional life was truly groundbreaking. She dedicated many years to a distinguished career with CSX Transportation, where she broke the glass ceiling as the first female manager in a male-dominated industry at the time. Her commitment, work ethic, and trailblazing leadership earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues, and her contributions to the company were a source of immense pride and a testament to her determination and capability.
Linda is survived and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Leon Richard Blackburn, Jr. (Sandra Price Blackburn) and Anthony Clark Blackburn (Tracy Renee Blackburn). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Amanda Cari Blackburn (Stewart Michael Ussery), Anthony Clark Blackburn, Jr. (Sydney Cheyenne Webb), Jackson Anthony DiSario, and Payton Renee DiSario, Jonathon Shane Masters, as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Avery Connor Blackburn and Jackson Stewart Ussery. Their lives are a living tribute to the love and values she instilled. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Victoria McLucas (John Lee McLucas), and Gerald Hugh Bernhard.
A woman of faith, Linda was a valued member of McDonough First United Methodist Church. To celebrate her life, a service will be held on Sunday, May 18th, at McDonough First United Methodist Church, 151 Macon St, McDonough, GA 30253. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 pm. In accordance with her wishes, Linda will be cremated.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to McDonough First United Methodist Church, honoring Linda’s commitment to her faith and community.
